Four questions I keep returning to.
My research starts from existentialism and moves outward, through fieldwork, into culture, place and belief in Sri Lanka.
Existentialism & Freedom
How do people act freely inside structures that limit them? I read Sartre, Beauvoir and Camus alongside Sri Lankan life: the 2022 Aragalaya protests, the everyday negotiation of dominance, and the search for an authentic gender identity.
Technology & Anxiety
Artificial intelligence is changing work, attention and self-image faster than our vocabulary for it. This strand asks whether the rise of AI is also a rise in existential anxiety, and what philosophy can offer in response.
Culture, Place & Ecology
Fieldwork-led research on how places are made and sold: heritage in the Sinharaja rainforest, urban space claimed by beggars, war tourism along the A9 to Jaffna, and Vedda beliefs about life and death.
Religion & Mind
Religion as a philosophical and psychological fact: Jung’s collective unconscious and the idea of God, the medieval church and philosophy, and traditional ritual in contemporary Sri Lanka.
